A BRIEF HISTORY OF BAREFOOT MEDICINE

In the 1960’s there were not nearly enough physicians available to provide for the medical needs of the Chinese people. Estimates suggest that there were only 40,000 physicians available to provide for 540 million people and, to make matters worse, most of the physicians were located in the cities while 80% of the Chinese population was in the rural countryside.

In an effort to provide for basic medical care of the Chinese people, the government enrolled one million young people in intensive three- to six-month medical training courses which covered anatomy, bacteriology, basic disease diagnosis, acupuncture, prescribing traditional and Western medicines, contraception, and maternal and infant care. These individuals were sent out as “barefoot doctors” to provide basic health care to the Chinese people.

THE BAREFOOT DOCTOR PREVENTION OF DISEASE PROTOCOL

The barefoot doctors developed a simple auricular (ear acupuncture) protocol which they used to strengthen the body against contagious diseases, including malaria, epidemic influenza, and mumps. A study showed that only 1.2% of the people who received the protocol contracted malaria, whereas 8.5% of those who did not receive the treatment contracted the disease. The treatment helps to improve digestion and sleep and strengthens the immune system and people who receive it rarely contract colds or the flu.

Although it most certainly does not represent a stand-alone measure against COVID-19, we are now offering the Barefoot Doctor Prevention of Disease protocol to our patients, their loved ones, and other members of the central Texas community.

WHAT’S INVOLVED?

This protocol entails placing tiny metallic pellets very precisely over five specific points. The pellets are covered with adhesive tape and generally can remain in place for one to two weeks.

Please call to schedule an appointment. The cost is $10.00 per person.
